Tsunoda Aims for Canadian GP Turnaround on 100th Race Milestone

After a challenging weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda is setting his sights on a significant improvement at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, a race that will also mark his 100th start in Formula 1. The Japanese driver endured a difficult time in Barcelona, struggling for pace which culminated in qualifying last. His race did not fare much better, starting from the pit lane and ultimately finishing outside the points, capping off a disappointing event. Looking ahead to Montreal, Tsunoda is hopeful that intensive preparation will help him bounce back. Following the Spanish Grand Prix, he participated in a Pirelli tyre test at the same circuit, gaining valuable mileage and data. This was complemented by simulator work undertaken at the team's base in Milton Keynes. The aim of these efforts is to better understand the car and improve performance, particularly in qualifying, an area he acknowledged needed attention after the Barcelona struggles. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve holds a special place for Tsunoda, who regards it as one of his favourite tracks on the calendar. He expressed enthusiasm for Montreal itself, citing the city's atmosphere and lifestyle as enjoyable aspects of the visit. The significance of reaching 100 races is not lost on him; he reflected on the journey, noting that while it feels like a recent beginning, F1 also feels like a long-established part of his life. Each of his previous 99 races has felt special, and he aims to commemorate his centenary start with a strong result. Tsunoda highlighted the team's focus on executing a cleaner and more competitive qualifying session in Canada compared to Spain. While Montreal's weather can be unpredictable, forecasts suggesting potentially dry and consistent conditions could aid their efforts to achieve their objectives for the weekend. The goal remains to translate the work done in testing and the simulator into a tangible performance step on track and secure a points finish to mark his milestone race.
