Stroll Confirmed for Home Canadian Grand Prix After Wrist Issue
Lance Stroll is set to return to the cockpit for this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix, his home race, following his withdrawal from the previous round in Spain due to a wrist issue. Aston Martin has confirmed the Canadian driver will be back behind the wheel in Montreal, marking a swift recovery after his medical concerns at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Stroll had participated in the opening practice and qualifying sessions in Barcelona, securing 14th place on the grid. However, shortly after qualifying, Aston Martin announced he would not compete in Sunday's race. The team cited a flare-up of pain related to wrist injuries he sustained in a cycling accident just before the start of the 2023 season.
Team management explained that while Stroll had recovered sufficiently from the initial fractures to compete in 2023, he had been experiencing recurring pain in recent weeks. This discomfort intensified, becoming unmanageable by Saturday evening in Barcelona. After undergoing swift medical checks, the decision was collectively made that it was best for him to withdraw from the Spanish Grand Prix to avoid further aggravation.
To prepare for his return to racing duties in Canada, Stroll has undergone a medical procedure aimed at alleviating the symptoms he experienced. Crucially, he also completed test laps in an F1 car at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France this week to assess his fitness and readiness before committing to the Montreal event.
Stroll himself expressed his excitement to be back racing with the team, particularly at his home Grand Prix. He indicated that he was determined to be ready to compete in front of the Canadian fans. He confirmed he is feeling well after the procedure and the laps completed at Paul Ricard were part of his preparation. His confirmation provides a boost for the Aston Martin team heading into the ninth round of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
