Lance Stroll Cleared to Return for Home Canadian Grand Prix
Lance Stroll is set to make his return to the Formula 1 grid this weekend, competing in his home Canadian Grand Prix. Aston Martin has confirmed the Canadian driver is fit to race after missing the previous round in Spain due to pain in his wrist.
Stroll's injury dates back to a cycling crash sustained in February 2023, shortly before the start of the season. Despite the fracture, he participated in the initial races, reportedly competing with screws in his injured wrist. However, the pain resurfaced ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.
After taking part in practice and qualifying sessions at the Circuit de Catalunya, Stroll experienced significant discomfort. Following qualifying, he informed the FIA he required urgent medical attention for the pain, which was accepted as the reason for his failure to report for mandatory weighing, resulting in a formal warning for his team.
Prior to the Spanish race, the decision was made for Stroll to withdraw to address the issue. Aston Martin has now stated that Stroll underwent a successful medical procedure to alleviate the symptoms he was experiencing. To ensure his readiness, he recently completed laps in an older F1 car at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.
The team has expressed confidence in Stroll's condition, confirming he is feeling fit and healthy. His participation is particularly significant as it marks his return at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, in front of his home crowd.
Stroll is understood to be eager to get back behind the wheel with the team for this highly anticipated home event, signaling his recovery is sufficient to tackle the demands of a Formula 1 race weekend.
